Mangaluru: Lions Club Mangalore Centurion volunteers for Swacch Bharat at Paldane Convent

Mangaluru, 20 Sep 2021: Lions Club Mangalore Centurion in collaboration with Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Ancilla Cordis Lesu) ACI, founded by St Raphaela Mary, organized Swacch Bharat, cleanliness drive at their Convent, Paldane, here on Sunday, September 19.
ACI has bases in India at Juhu-Mumbai, Pune, Roha-Raigad, Odisha, Mangaluru, Kochi and Vypin in Kerala. It is an international women congregation whose mission is reperation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through 2-fold means: Daily adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and evangelizing education.
In her preliminary address, Sr Suvarna Fernandes, superior of Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Convent, Paldane, here quoted Pope Francis’s comment on Environment, ‘We cannot remain silent before the outcry when we realize the very high costs of the destruction and exploitation of the ecosystem. This is not a time to continue looking the other way, indifferent to the signs that our planet is being plundered and violated by greed for profit, very often in the name of progress. We want quick and easy profit. Caring for ecosystems demands a look to the future, one that is not concerned only with the immediate moment or that seeks a quick and easy profit, but rather one that is concerned for life and that seeks its preservation for the benefit of all,’ quoted Sr Fernandes.
Sr Fernandes urged the gathering to do their mite towards conserving the environment at their respective households till it takes shape of a mass movement.
Lions Club Mangalore Centurion president Robert D Costa, member Rajesh Colaco, extension chairperson and Swacch Bharat organizer Lawrence Lobo, energetic convent community, youth volunteers cleaned the convent campus.
