Moodubelle: Students bid emotional farewell to Fr Arun

Moodubelle, 02 July 2011: On Thursday 30 June 2011, a farewell function was organised by the students and staff of St Lawrence Pre-university College Moodubelle to Rev. Fr Arun Mendonca who was leaving Moodubelle to explore new grounds in his mission.
The function commenced with a prayer by a group of college students at 3 PM presided over by Rev Fr Paul Sequeira, Principal of St Lawrence PU College and compeered by Ms Hilda Aranha. Mr Alphonse Alva Vice President of the Parish Council was the chief guest. College student Mr Ivan Lobo welcomed the gathering.
On behalf of the students of the institution student Ms Raksha Hebbar thanked Fr Arun for his dedicated 4 years of service to the institution and for the help he had rendered to the students in their academic as well as extra-curricular activities. She praised his friendly nature and his simplicity. It is painful to leave him; he was not only a teacher but also a friend to all the students, she said. She also reminded the students that it is a part of their education that they should also remember their teachers who were instrumental in their early years of formation. On behalf of all the students she wished him well in his future endeavours.
On behalf of the staff, Mr Ballal praised Fr Arun for his simplicity, few and soft words, always friendly with the poor, helping and guiding the needy. He said with these multiple qualities he was very popular with children and the staff. We will always remember him for what he was and wish him success in his new assignment at Milagres High School, Kalianapur.
Fr Paul Sequeira honoured Fr Arun with a shawl, garland and gifts on behalf of the Institution. Student Ms Priya Shetty proposed vote of thanks.

| The Grand and emotional send off to Fr. Arun Mendonca forced me recollect the days of my school life in 1964. Our then Headmaster Mr Deju Uchil an elderly man of 65 years was to retire from service and due for bidding farewell and being in Std X, we were previledged to bid farewell to him with reverence. The students were spell bound with emotions and were not able to speak. Tears filled eys and mumbling words made the Head master Mr Uchil also to weep like a child. That was the bond of students and teacher-head master. You must be knowing the Head master he should be and "THE HEAD MASTER you might have read in English Novel. A great ocean of difference ! Similarly seeing the faces caught by Mr Anil Alva in his lenses I could make out how loving and close Fr. Arun was with his students and staff. That is called humanity . Undoubtedly Fr Arun will linger in the minds of the students and the Belle parishoners for longbecause of his apt homily and teachings. I too wish him God speed and happy and memorable days in his future career. Very rare to find such persons-Priests. May their tribe increase and multiply. | |
