Udupi/M’Belle: Cash prizes awarded to First Class SSLC students of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium

Moodubelle, 07 Oct 2016: Students of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Moodubelle who had scored first class marks and had taken admission to first year PUC in St. Lawrence PU College were given cash prizes of Rs. 5,000/- each to 33 students totalling Rs. 1,65,000/- on Friday, 7 October 2016 at a function held in St. Lawrence PU College Hall. The cash awards were sponsored by Philip Castelino an old student of the institution and a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist.
The brief function to give away the cash prizes was presided over by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Other dignitaries on the dais included Philip Castelino, Alphonse Alva-President of Parents-Teachers Association, Navin Correa-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Leena D’Silva-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High school and Navitha-Student Pupil Leader.
Following the welcome address by Mrs. Leena D’Silva, Philip Castelino distributed cash prizes to the students who had scored first class marks and had taken admission in St. Lawrence PU College for first year PUC. Parents of the successful students were present on this occasion.
For his generosity, Philip Castelino was honoured by the dignitaries by offering him shawl, garland and fruit tray.
In his brief message, Philip Castelino said that when he was invited to the send off function of the SSLC students he had assured them that he would award cash prizes of Rs. 5,000/- each to those students who would score first class marks in the forth coming examination and would take admission for PUC in St. Lawrence PU College. He congratulated the successful students and sais that while he was a student of the high school fifty years ago there were many difficulties. I the past though young boys had a will to study could not continue due to financial problems. Nowadays there are many facilities to those students who wish to continue their studies.
In his presidential message, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas said that Philip Castelino achieved success in his life due to hard work and sincerity. Realizing the difficulties that he had faced in his students days decided to give incentive to the students to do well in the SSLC examination. He asked the students to emulate his example and achieve success in their lives too by hard work and determination. He also made an appeal to the parents to instil good values in their children along with good education.
Mrs. Sunitha Kamath proposed the vote of thanks and Sudhir Nayak compered the programme.
