Udupi, 17 June 2011: Indian Navy, Indian Coastal Security Police and Coastal Vigilance Troops with their joint participation had a program of dialogue and information on Thursday at Malpe Fishing Port. On this occasion Indian Navy Karvar Unit Officer Commander Thushar Soki said that, for the security of coastal region, fishermen need to play an important role. Since the security forces in the sea are less in number, stranger boats sneak in easily. When these stranger boats sneak into our territory, only our fishermen who fish in the sea will come to know. They must report this to the nearest police station immediately, he said.
While going for fishing into deep sea, it is better to go 3 – 4 boats together, so that during emergency and accidents they can help each other and it will be possible to reduce the difficulties and loss. Also, the practice of fishing in the areas which are not suitable for fishing is to be stopped. The fishermen need to posses the required safety equipments and also necessary documents with them to avoid any problems and these documents are to be presented during verification, he suggested.
Officer Suresh Kumar Mallik gave the demonstration of alert transmitter. Mangalore Fishing Deputy Director Suresh Kumar, Fish Marketing Federation President Yashpal Suvarna, Malpe Fishermen Sangha President Hiriyanna Kidiyoor and others were present on the occasion.
