ITF Manipal Open Tennis Tournament – 2011: Day 1

Manipal, 25 May 2011: ITF Manipal Open Tennis Tournament being played in Manipal University Indoor Stadium, on the first day on Monday it was the game of un seeded players. Played in the qualifying round and entered into the first round, among the 8 un seeded players 4 players played and 3 won and entered into the 16.
But the best performance on the first day is the 7th seeded Japanese Koki Mathsunaga. He easily defeated Indian Mohamed Firoz in 6-2, 6-1 sets. In both the sets Feroz could not offer a equal fight. Ankith Sachdev who entered through the qualifying round defeated American Joel Kimkide in 7 – 6 (2) and 6 – 2 sets in a tough match.
In a similar tough match between Saurabh Patil and Vishvanath Savadi, finally Saurabh won with 6 – 4 and 7 – 6 sets. The fourth game of the day was played between Thejasvi Rao and Shanthanu Rajputh, both of them entered through the qualifying round. In this match Thejasvi defeated Shanthanu with 6 – 1, 6 – 2 sets.
Vikram Reddy who also entered through the qualifying round defeated Thejas Chawkulkar in 6 – 4, 7 – 6 (9) sets. In the other one sided match between Vighnesh Pernamallur and Ronak Manuj, Vignesh won in 6 – 2, 6 – 2 straight sets.
Earlier in the morning the tournament began with inauguration by Manipal University Chancellor Dr. Ramadas M. Pai, who wished all the success. On this occasion the main sponsors of the tournament Carporation Bank’s Gopal, Manipal University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ram Narayan, from Udupi District Administration S. P. Dr. Y. S. Ravikumar were present.
Tournament Director Sunil Yajman welcomed the gathering and also compeered the program. The tournament began on Monday will be played until 28th May 2011. In this International tournament 32 players from 5 countries are participating.
