Mangaluru: India Post releases special cover to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s city visit

Mangaluru, 24 Feb: Mahatma Gandhi, an ardent crusader of non violence became renowned world over, said Dakshina Kannada district DC Sasikant Sentil.
DC Sasikant was speaking during the release of special cover to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s Mangaluru visit by India Post at a function held at Jnanodaya Samaja Mandira, Hoige Bazaar, here, on Saturday, February 23 at 2.00pm.
Its significant that the special postal cover is being released in the same spot where Mahatma Gandhi stayed in Mangaluru and he is happy about it, said DC Sasikant.
Every postal cover that has been released by India Post bears historical events.
In his presidential address, South Karnataka zonal postmaster general S Rajendra Kumar said, ‘The special postal cover has been released to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi whose simplicity is indeed worth emulating.’
Jnanodaya Samaja Mandira chairman Premachandra K Tingalaya, renowned philatelist Dr E G Laxman Prabhu, senior postal commissioner S Harsha was present.
