Udupi/M’Belle: St. Lawrence Community Hall Gets Finishing Touches Prior to Inauguration on Dec 2

Udupi/M’Belle, 30 Nov: Like a bride awaiting eagerly for her wedding day, the beautifully and elegantly constructed St. Lawrence Community Hall also known as ‘Souharda Soudha’ is just a day away from its grand inauguration and blessing function on Sunday, 2 December 2018. The final finishing touches and cleanliness drive to prepare the dream project for the inauguration were afoot on Friday, 30 November 2018, just two days prior to the great event. Chairs will be laid inside the newly constructed hall by Saturday evening to accommodate nearly 1200 people in air-conditioned comfort  for  the inauguration and blessing of the auditorium. Provision is also being made by erecting pandal outside the hall for additional people with the provision of CCTV to watch the proceedings of the felicitation function.

On the appeal from Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, around 200 parishioners volunteered to participate in the cleanliness drive in and around the newly constructed hall on Friday, 30 November 2018. Most of them brought their own brooms, dusters and mops to sweep, to clean and mop the floors, doors and windows. There was great enthusiasm among the parishioners to be part of the cleanliness drive so that the newly constructed hall and the surroundings would be neat and clean prior to the inauguration and blessing on Sunday, 2 December.

The cleanliness drive commenced at 10 am with a brief prayer by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas along with Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish Priest, Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Latha D’Mello-Secretary and Elias D’Souza-Project Engineer.  

Joseph Martis coordinated the entire cleanliness drive under the overall supervision of Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha and Vincent Fernandes. 

As the historic event of the inauguration and blessing of the newly constructed ‘Souharda Saudha’ is just two days away, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas expressed his happiness and said that the completion of the project is a miracle and a pleasant dream of the parishioners that has come true. He thanked Almighty God for the fulfillment of this dream project. Continuing further he expressed gratitude to the intercession of St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the parish. Giving credit to all the donors, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas said that the generous contribution by all parishioners, both residing within the parish and abroad and even other people of good-will has been the chief source of strength for completing such a beautiful and modern community hall.

Fr. Clement Mascarenhas appreciated the support and cooperation of all parishioners, Parish Pastoral Council, and Finance and Building Committees. He also acknowledged the contribution  of Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, the Assistant Parish Priest and Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council towards the completion of the project. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas  had a special word of praise to the Project Engineer Elias D’Souza. He said that it was chiefly because of the meticulous planning, designing and execution of the project by Elias that we could have such a beautiful and aesthetically marvelous community hall.  He hoped that the inauguration and blessing of the community hall will be attended by all parishioners and other invitees.

Speaking to this reporter, Elias D’Souza, the Project Engineer said that this was his major project and he has put in his full efforts and  time to see its successful completion and he felt quite elated that the project has come out as he had planned and designed. He has no doubt that this would be the best community hall not only in and around Moodubelle, but in the whole of the district.

Recalling the background of the project, Elias D’Souza said that after returning from Dubai, he started his own Engineering Firm ‘Civitech’. He has been involved in residential and commercial projects. He got an opportunity to renovate the Cemetery of St. Lawrence Parish which was appreciated by one and all. Later, when the proposal for the new parish hall came up, he was considered as the Project Engineer. Though the foundation stone for the new hall was laid in November 2016, the actual construction work commenced from March 2017. Within 18 months the entire project was executed with all modern amenities and elegant exterior. He expressed gratitude to all concerned committees of the parish and especially Fr. Clement Mascarenhas for reposing faith in his ability to complete the project. He also appreciated the cooperation of Fr. Lawrence Cutinha and Vincent Fernandes in completing the project. Elias D’Souza further said that he was fortunate to have the service of some of the most experienced personnel and workers who could work with professional touch and enable him to complete the project within stipulated time.

The inauguration function will be held on Sunday, 2 December 2018 with solemn Thanksgiving Mass at 10 am offered by Most Rev. Dr. Gerlad Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese as the main celebrant along with Most Rev. Dr. Albert D’Souza, Archbishop of Agra and other priests.

The solemn Thanksgiving Mass will be followed by the Inauguration and Blessing of the new Community Hall by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo at 11.30 am. Thereafter, the felicitation function will be held at 11.45 am in the newly inaugurated and blessed hall.

The felicitation fuantion will be presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Albert D’Souza. Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Baptist Menezes-Vicar General, Uudpi Diocese and Shri Lalaji R. Mendon - MLA Kaup Constituency will be the chief guests. The guests of honour list includes Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca - Dean of Udupi Varado, Mrs. Priyanka Mary Francis - D.C. Udupi District, Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake - Former MLA, Kaup Constituency, Shri J.R. Lobo - Former MLA, Mangalore South Constituency, Mrs. Ranjani Hegde - President, Belle Grama Panchayat, Shri William Aranha - Businessman and Philanthropist - Qatar, Shri Ronald Sabi D’Souza - Businessman and Philanthropist, Dubai, Shri Wilfred Menezes - Businessman and Philanthropist, Dubai.
