Easter Cup Cricket Tournament-2011: Eagles Shirva Champions

Dubai, 10 April 2011: In an exciting final match in the Easter Cup Tournament-2011 held on 8 April 2011 at the Safa Ground, the Eagles Shirva Cricket Team emerged as Champions by defeating the Taccode Friends Cricket Team in the final match. Altogether there were sixteen teams that participated whole-heartedly in the tournament and were divided into two groups A and B. These teams were: Mangalore Lions, MCBC, Bellevision, Canara Friends, Arabian Friends, Taccode Friends, Matchless, Spark Sharjah, United Friends, Katapady Friends, Lakers – 11, Royal Challengers, Bantwal Tigers, Eagles Shirva, Omzoor Friends and Little Flowers participated in the league matches.
Following the success of the Easter Cup – 2010, Rajesh Alvares, Paul D’Souza, and Wilson D’Mello once again organized this tournament the Easter Cup – 2011 along with the extended support from Taccode Friends and Little Flowers to bring the Konakni speaking youth from South Canara and Udupi and to provide an opportunity for them to manifest their talents. There was overwhelming response from the cricket lovers all over UAE.
The teams were present on a sunny weekend here in Dubai. Rajesh held the prayer and the tournament began at 7.30 am with the inaugural match between Bajal Friends and MCBC (winners of Easter Cup – 2010).
The tournament was played on the basis of knock-out. Among the four teams that emerged at the end for semi-finals were: Bellevision and Taccode Friends from Group-A , and Royal Challengers and Eagles Shirva Group-B.
The outstanding performance of individual cricket players was recognised in the entire tournament beginning from the league, quarter finals, semi-finals and in the final matches and were honoured with the “Man of the Match” awards respectively.
At the concluding ceremony, Vinay Pinto proposed the vote of thanks and the trophies were distributed to the winning teams by Melwyn Cardoza of Al Shay Restaurant.
@ Lilly Lobo – Abu Dhabi. Madam, I personally liked your comments, it will definitely, boost the energy of the team, especially your sincere expression ‘not so young’. In the mean time please note that, they are not so old, a perfect time to play good cricket, to the best knowledge they all well known cricket players of Shirva and its surroundings in the early 90’s. Well done Eagles Shirva, hope you all enjoyed the game.
