Udupi, 27 March 2011: Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya said on Saturday that Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) was a model among the 44 CMCs in the State. He was speaking after inaugurating the air-conditioned bus-stand here constructed by the Udupi CMC for Mangalore-bound passengers.
Mr. Acharya said cheques amounting to Rs. 2.5 crore had been distributed to the people who had given their land for the widening of the road from Tangadagady to Kalsanka in the city. Land acquisition for widening the road would be completed in the next 20 days.
The State Government had sanctioned Rs. 25 crore for the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Udupi CMC. This amount would be released on March 31. As soon as this amount was released, tenders would be floated for eight to 10 works in the CMC, Dr. Acharya said.
Raghupati Bhat, MLA, said the Diana Hotel area would be acquired. This would help in widening Diana Circle, which was congested, and would facilitate smooth movement of traffic, he said. President of the Udupi CMC Kiran Kumar welcomed the gathering. Vice-president Bharati Chandrashekhar, CMC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and councillor M.R. Pai were present.
