Udupi: Jewelry Merchants Protest

Udupi, 26 March 2011: Udupi Jewelers Association protested against the increase of VAT from 1 percent to 2 percent on Friday. The procession left Rathabeedi and went up to the Gandhi Statue near service bus stand and then had a protest assembly there.

 

Association President G. Jaya Acharya spoke and said that they have appealed the Chief Minister to reduce the VAT from 2 percent to 1 percent. The increase of the tax has caused problems especially to poor and middle class people. The government need to take up this issue immediately or else will swift our protest.

 

 

Vice President of the Association A. Nagaraja Acharya, Secretary S. Subramanya Shet, Deputy Secretary U. Girish Shet, Treasurer K. Padmanabha Shet, G. Ramadas Nayak, G. Rajesh Nayak, Subhash M. Kamath, K. Vasudev Shet and others participated in the protest.
