Catechism Day observed in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle

Moodubelle, 02 March 2011: The Catechism Day was observed in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle on Sunday, 27th February 2011 following the 10 am Sunday Mass celebrated by Fr. Arun Mendonca, Fr. Maxim Pinto and Fr. Lancy Saldanha. During the Mass, students from fifth standard to PUC actively participated in the liturgy of the day.
Following the Mass the Catechism Day was observed in a brief function. Fr. Maxim Pinto, Director of the Assisi Nilaya, Kattingeri was the chief guest of the programme. The PUC students started the programme with prayer song followed by welcome address by Venessa Menezes of tenth standard. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Fr. Arun Mendonca, Fr. Lancy Saldanha and Sr. Vineetha were on the dais.
Alwyn Lobo and Vineetha D’Souza of PUC shared their experience about the Catechism that they have studied in the school and Junior College.
Those students who had passed the Catechism examination were felicitated by Fr. Maxim Pinto by giving them prizes. Mrs. Justine Mendonca read out the names of the successful students. Thereafter, Fr. Maxim Pinto gave his message highlighting the importance of Catechism in the life of the students.
Fr. Joswey Fernandes expressed his gratitude to all the teachers by giving them gifts as mark of appreciation of their service to the church and community. Fifteen teacehrs are involved in conducting Catechism classes in the Moodubelle Parish: Fr. Arun Mendonca, Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Fr. Maxim pinto (FM Cap), Br. Wilson Sequeira (OFM Cap), Sr. Vineetha, Sr. Ilien, Sr. Hilda, Sr. Davidika, Sr. Elnora, Babita Noronha, Lizy Barboza, Justine Mendoonca, Shanti Alva, Gladys Rebello, Mabel Saldanha and Wilma Rodrigues.
In his messsage on the occasion of the observatin of the Catechism Day, Fr. Joswey emphasised the relevance and importance of Catechism in shaping the life of an individual, especially the children and the youth with spirituality and virtues. He also appreciated the efforts put in by all the Catechism teachers in Sunday catechism classes.
Fr. Joswey Fernandes honoured Daisy Sheetal Mendonca of St. Lawrence English medium School who had secured first position in the parish in the Catechism Examination for the seventh standard conducted by the Mangala Jyothi Centre, Mangalore, and Renita Wilma Mathais of the Church Aided Higher primary School for securing second place in the same examination.
Jasmine Lobo compeered the programme and Mrs. Shanti Alva proposed the vote of thanks. Following the programme, ice cream was served to all the students and teachers sponsored by the parish priest, Fr. Joswey Fernandes.
