SSLC Results: Strategic planning puts Udupi on top in state
Udupi, 12 May 2015: The dismal performance of the Udupi District in 2014 SSLC results was a rude awakening to the education department. But the jolt helped it strategize their plan for the next year and the results are there to see.
Udupi has topped the state in SSLC results and earned the coveted place which had slipped from its hands seven years back. The district had slipped from third place in 2013 to 16th place in 2014.
Udupi DDPI Divakar Shetty gives full credit to his teachers for the success story. The strategist says, the plan was to make students remain in an environment of education for more time. ``We modified school timings by two hours and started it at 9am and the school remained open till 5 pm. The first and the last 60 minutes were devoted as reading hours which made students remain in an educational atmosphere,’’ he said Secondly, though schools were shut down for holidays on March 10, Udupi students were told to attend schools and it went on till April 12. ``This we got extra month for preparations where we coached students on their weak areas. Even during examinations, the holidays in between were used for coaching. All this helped,’’ Shetty added. Schools, both government and aided, even in the remotest corner of the district followed this strategy.
As many as 17,112 students appeared for this year’s examinations from 270 schools in Udupi District. ``I expect at least 60% of the students to score first class and at least 150 schools to get cent percent results,’’ said Shetty still beaming from the success.
As many as 600 teachers of government schools went through a special training programme in the district on how to coach students understanding their strengths and weakness.
The Udupi DDPI’s previous stint in Belagavi from 2013 to 2014 is also noteworthy. His efforts helped Belagavi achieve 9th place in 2013 from 14th place in 2012. Further it was placed third in 2014. This year it has slipped back to 14th position. Shetty’s aim was to improve percentage points by five to make it 90% from previous year’s 85.36%. But this year, well placed efforts saw the district gain eight plus percentage points to top the districts in the state.

Mr. Divakar Shetty, the DDPI deserves an out of turn promotion in addition to felicitations as much as the achiever students. |
