Udupi/M’Belle: New Academic Year 2015-16 inaugurated in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions

Udupi, 02 Jun 2015: The New Academic Year 2015-2016 was inaugurated in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions on Tuesday, 2 June 2015 at 10 am in St. Lawrence Church Hall. On this occasion those students who had secured distinction marks in the PUC and SSLC examinations were felicitated. Rev. Fr. Pangiraj, principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School who has been transferred to Bangalore, Srinivas Ballal, Kannada teacher from St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and Mrs. Shyamala B.N., Economics lecturer from St. Lawrence PU College who had retired from their service were also honoured.
The threefold function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, the newly appointed parish priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle who is also the Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions that include the Church Aided Higher Primary School, St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, St. Lawrence PU College and St. Lawrence English Medium High School. Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Souza who had recently taken charge as the Director of Catholic Education Society of Udupi Diocese (CESU) was the chief guest.
The programme began with brief prayer service and reading of passages from the Bhagwadgitha, Bible and Quran. Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College welcomed the guests on the dais-Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Souza, Alphonse K. Alva-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Rajendra Shetty-Presdient of Belle Grama Panchayat and also President of Old Students Association of Church Aided Higher Primary School, Devdas Hebbar-President of Old Students Association of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Joseph Martis-President of PTA PU College, Mrs. Shanti Alva-President of PTA St. Lawrence English Medium High School, J.B. Miranda-member of Management Committee, Rev. Fr. Pangiraj, Srinivas Ballal, Mrs. Leena D’Sa-Senior teacher of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and Richard Andrade-Headmaster of Church Aided Higher Primary School.
Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Souza along with other dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurated the New Academic Year by lighting the lamp.
The new students to eighth standard in St. Lawrence Kannada Medium and English Medium High Schools and First Year PU students were welcomed to the respective classes by senior students offering flowers to the representatives of these classes. Similarly, Rev. Fr Clement Mascarenhas welcomed two new teachers in St. Lawrence English Medium High School by offering them roses.
Senior teachers of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and St. Lawrence English Medium High School read out the results of the SSLC examinations whereas Mrs. Jacintha D’Souza, Commerce lecturer of St. Lawrence PU College analyzed the results of Second Year PU examinations.
Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Souza felicitated the meritorious students who secured first three positions and also scored distinction marks in PUC and SSLC examinations. Larsen Edward D’Souza, Political Science lecturer in St. Lawrence PU College read the list of meritorious students. Fr. Lawrence also welcomed the teaching and non-teaching staff of all the institutions for the new academic year by offering them roses.
Rev. Fr. Pangiraj who had served St. Lawrence English Medium High School for two years as the Principal was honoured by the dignitaries on the dais offering him shawl, garland, fruits, memento and citation.
In his reply to the honour, Rev. Fr. Pangiraj thanked Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, former Correspondent for his support, Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira and Alphonse K. Alva for their friendship, the entire staff of the school for their hard work and cooperation so that the school could register hundred percent result in SSLC for the fifth consecutive year.
Next, Srinivas Ballal along with his wife and Mrs. Shyamala B.N. along with her husband were honoured by offering them shawsl, garlands, fruits, mementos and citations.
On this occasion, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Souza, who had taken charge as the Director of CESU recently and was on the first official visit to St. Lawrence Educational Institutions was honoured by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and other dignitaries on the dais. Similarly, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas who had taken charge as the parish priest of St. Lawrence Church and as Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions was also honoured.
In his brief message, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Souza expressed his gratitude to Rev. Fr. Pangiraj, Srinivas Ballal and Mrs. Shyamala for their selfless service to the educational institutions and wished them well in their future endeavours and retired life. He also complimented the meritorious students for their excellent performance and also wished them well in their future studies.
Srinivas Ballal and Mrs. Shyamala replying to the honour on the occasion of their retirement expressed gratitude to the Correspondents, principals, colleagues and students for their support, cooperation and affection. Mrs. Shyamala thanked all her teachers right from the primary school and also remembered those including her own husband who were instrumental in continuing her education and taking up teaching profession.
In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas expressed happiness at the organization of such a grand programme and complimented Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira and the staff of all institutions. He also thanked Rev. Fr. Pangiraj, Srinivas Ballal and Mrs. Shyamala for serving in the institutions. Addressing the students and teachers , Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas said that the academic year has just started and a lot of academic and extra-curricular work has to be done so that St. Lawrence Educational Institutions would achieve greater heights.
Sr. Irene Viegas of Church Aided Higher Primary School proposed the vote of thanks. The entire programme was anchored by Naveen Correa, History lecturer in St. Lawrence PU College.

Wishing all a great academic year ahead, Iwould like say all the best for both teachers in thier future life, and pertculerly Mrs.Shyamala mam for her long rendered service for our college in which i was in 1992 batch and still i remember "human wants are unlimited and competitive which still applies all of us. Wish her all the best with her family. After PUC never got to meet you as searching for new Carrier which succeeded all by your blessing.
