Udupi, 22 Dec 2014: At the Christmas Snehakoota held under the auspices of Shirva Unit of the Catholic Sabha on Saturday, 20 December 2014 at 5 pm at the Shirva township, speakers representating Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities made a fervent appeal for communal harmony, mutual goodwill and respect among people belonging to different communities.
Speaking at this occasion, Prasad Shetty Kuthyar said that in a country like India no religion or political ideology would be able to break the unity of the nation. The intolerant attitude that is being manifested recently by some political leaders poses danger to the unity among people professing different religions.
Headmaster of Hejamadi HIM Arabic School, Maulana PMA Ashraf Amsadhi said that the basic principles of all the major religions of the world are the same and there is no religion that is opposed to humanism. If people fight among themselves on the basis of religious differences, neighbouring countries which have been inimical to India would take advantage. Hence, people should be careful not to indulge in spreading hatred and misunderstanding among people on the basis of religious differences. He further said that such attempts to celebrate festivals of different religious communities together would foster communal harmony and a sense of brotherhood.
In his message, Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro, Parish Priest of Mother of Health Church, Shirva said, “We have everything that we require in life, but lack the essence of humanism.” He further said that by celebrating festivals such as Christmas people of different religions can promote human spirit and communal harmony.
