Mangalore: Catholic community is lagging in entrepreneurship

Mangalore, 12 January 2010: The Catholic community of Mangalore is lagging in entrepreneurship, said Mr. Jacob Crasta, The President of the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Bangalore. As a chief guest, he was addressing the gathering on the occasion of presentation of “Rachana Awards 2009 at Milagres Jubile Hall, Mangalore on 10th January 2009 (Sunday).

He advised religious heads not just to confine scope of the church to spiritual & religious activities but also to encourage entrepreneurship among Catholics on regular basis.

The Rachana Awards 2009 for achievers in various categories were conferred by Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza, the Bishop of Mangalore.
Rachana Agriculturist of the year 2009 award was conferred to Mr. Richard Monteiro from Bantwal.

Mr. Walter Nandalike was recognized & awarded as the Rachana Entrepreneur of the year 2009 for his outstanding efforts in making Mangalore shine in the world map through his daijiworld.com website.

Dr. Anand Titus Pereira of Sakleshpur was the best choice for the Rachana Professional of the year 2009 Award.

Mr. Leslie J. Fernandes of Dockendale Shipping Company, Bahamas was awarded as the Rachana NRI Entrepreneur of the year 2009. Ms. Mabel Rebello, Hon. Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from Jharkhand State was awarded as the Rachana Outstanding Woman of the year 2009 for her great efforts in providing the much needed infrastructure for the backward state of Jharkhand & her selfless service to the people of Jharkhand. She is a native of Kundapur (Karnataka).

Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza, in his Presidential address appreciated the great work done by Rachana in recognizing & honouring the top achievers in various categories & congratulated all the 5 awardees. He adviced Rachana to go for a membership campaign to & enroll more members to extend its scope of work. He advice was also directed towards parents to encourage their children to take up entrepreneuship.

Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza offered memento to the chief guest & honoured the past Presidents of Rachana. Mr. Jacob Crasta honored the members of jury, who were instrumental in making the best choice of awardees in various categories.

Mr. Ronald Gomes, President of Rachana welcomed & honored the donors & sponsors. Mr. Lester Dsouza, Secretary offered vote of thanks. Mr. Titus Noronha & Ms. Trishma Pinto compered the programme.

The programme commenced at 06:30 p.m. with prayer dance from Mandd Sobhann team & ended with national anthem at 09:00 p.m.
