Mangalore: Rachana Holds Interactive Meet on Partnership & Progress of Coastal Karnataka

Mangalore, 7 Jul 2013: Rachana - Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry held an interactive meet on partnership and progress of coastal Karnataka, at Bishop’s House here on Saturday July 6 evening.
Bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza felicitated state forest, eco-environment minister and Dakshina Kannada (DK) district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, the state health and family welfare minister U T Khader during the programme.
A city-based entrepreneur and exporter Walter D’Souza briefed on the projects which is needed for the development of coastal Karnataka.
A memorandum was submitted to the minister Ramanath Rai by the members of Rachana at the occasion..
Speaking on the occasion, minister Rai said, ‘if we need to see the district to be developed we need to join hands and work for the development of the district.’ Briefing on the Nanthur Junction on national highway, Rai said that the persistent traffic congestion can be eased by building a flyover or underpass in that area. The junction is a nightmare to motorists either or exit from city, said minister Rai.
The minister Rai further said that at the backdrop of vehicular traffic is growing from New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) on the national highway Mangalore to Hassan, there lies greater need to convert into six-lane express highway. In order to execute the works nerly Rs 4,500 crore are required and it would take a minimum of 2 years, said minister Rai. He also assured to discuss this issue with CM Siddaramaiah along with other ministers in this regard, besides to upgrade the railway stations across the coastal district.
The minister U T Khader said, ‘our district has created a name in the educational field, Christian missionaries have created history in the field of education. Recalling his days at St Aloysius College, Khader said, ‘my lecturer Fr Ronnie Prabhu was making his class to repeat "I Care, I Can". I wasn’t sure what he actually meant by those words, but now I feel that the same words have made me to reach where I am today,’ said minister Khader.
Khader further said, ‘If we do not start the development work now, it is in peoples’ mind that development work will never happen in the district. People have given us a chance and we have the opportunity to develop the district because we have 4 ministers from the district in the cabinet. We have to make use of this opportunity and we seek the support of everyone in the development of the district,’ said minister Khader.
Rachana president Ivan D’Souza welcomed the gathering. MLAs J R Lobo and Moideen Bava and others were present at the occasion.
