Puttur, 22 Aug 2014: The general public rescued an ill patient who tried to commit suicide by lying on train track being reported nearby Nehru Nagar, here on Thursday August 21.

The rescued has been identified as thirty-eight-year-old Ganesh, a native of Kabaka, here.

Ganesh was lying on the train-track to commit suicide, when his wife raised an alarm.  The general public and nearby auto rickshaw drivers rushed to the spot and tried to carry him away to safety.  Meanwhile, the train from Mangalore was arriving on the same track.  Ganesh’s wife waved her pallu of sari signaling the engine driver to halt.  The engine driver applied emergency brakes and managed to halt just a few feet away from where Ganesh lay on the track.

The town police arrived at the spot and have taken both Ganesh and his wife into custody.
