Udupi, 22 Aug 2014: A leopard, which fell into a well in the premises of a house near Udupi has been rescued by forest department officials, police said.
The well was located in the premises of Balakrishna Poojary at Yermady in Havanje village.
The leopard was rescued by forest officials and police personnel in a two-hour long operation yesterday after inmates of the house found it trapped in the well, police said.
A cage was brought from nearby Aroor and lowered into the well using a rope. When the leopard climbed into the cage, it was pulled out, police said.
The leopard was later released into the Kudremukh National Park, they said.
The villagers later complained that the Forest department did not take adequate measures even after they informed them that a leopard was spotted in the area for the last few weeks and several domestic animals were missing.
