Surathkal, 07 January 2011: While factories pollute the sea by letting chemicals flow at Mithrapatna near Sasihitlu here, fish processing units dump the garbage on the seashore posing threat to the environment.
Garbage is seen dumped on the boulders, which were laid to prevent the sea erosion in the area. Moreover, plastic crates used to carry fish and plastic bags are also being disposed near the sea.
Following this, the entire seashore has become stinky and people are apprehensive about possible spread of contageous diseases.
Meanwhile, the companies ignore the demands of the people by not disposing the garbage.
Once the garbage reaches the sea, the water will also be polluted. Tourists may not prefer to visit the place if the beach was made filthy.
People in the region expressing their anger over fish processing units say that roads too have become nasty as dirty water from trucks, which carry fish, ply on roads.
People residing in and around Pavanje and Haleyangadi too were forced to live in stinky atmosphere due to the unscientific dumping of waste on the seashore. Residents say that the Mangalore City Corporation did not take any action even though memorandum was submitted.
