Mangalore, 07 March 2010: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. launched its third generation (3G) GSM voice and data service here on Friday.
The service will be available in Surathkal, Bykampady, Mangalore, Ullal, Deralakatte and Udupi town limits coming under the Dakshina Kannada Telecom District. A press release here stated that the 3G Experience Centre would function from the Kadri and Udupi telephone exchanges initially.
The 3G service network will be extended to other parts of the telecom district, which presently consists of over 4.25 lakh GSM mobile-users, in a phased manner. Since BSNL is the only 3G operator in the country as of now, the tariff plans are available for video calls between BSNL customers only.
The 3G technology enhances the experience of services such as multimedia and high-speed mobile broadband. It allows the users to make video calls, watch live television, access high-speed Internet and receive emails on mobile phones. The company has launched six post-paid plans, two pre-paid plans and one post-paid data plan. Recharge vouchers starting from Rs. 249 to Rs. 2,499 will be made available and existing 2G subscribers can change over to the new 3G plans.
