Tehsildar of Bantwala succeeds in persuading protesters to withdraw

Bantwala: After two months of public outcry against the district administration for not taking any action on the bridge built across the Palguni river in Polaliya (Addur) and showing negligence for the arrangement of an alternative road, the district administration sent a team of officials led by the Bantwala tehsildar to Polali on Monday and persuaded the villagers and succeeded in withdrawing the protest that was supposed to take place.
Tehsildar of Bantwal Archan Bhatt, Public Works Department officials, Bantwal Rural Police Station Officers reached the spot and held reconciliation talks with the Struggle Committee office bearers and villagers.
Alternative road system has been discussed with Public Works Department officials and Taluk officials. Also, Tehsildar Archana Bhat tried to convince the struggle committee and the villagers that they will be given an opportunity to talk in the presence of the district collector and action will be taken within a week.
MLA’s promise: withdrawal of protest
The struggle committee and the villagers were not in a position to agree to this. The committee leaders persisted that we will withdraw the protest only if the MLAs give appropriate assurance. Finally, the MLA Rajesh Naik Ulipadi came and promised to make an alternative road system here and also informed the leaders of the struggle committee and the villagers that the space for the construction of a temporary road has been identified.

Since the past two months, the citizens of Polali and surrounding areas have been suffering due to the blocking of heavy vehicle traffic including buses on Polali Bridge, and despite their requests to the representatives of the district administration to arrange an alternative road, they have been ignored without giving any response. The struggle committee, which has given a week deadline for the alternative road arrangement, and the villagers have warned that they will protest if the arrangement is not done within this period.
