Udupi/Barkur, 24 July: On Tuesday, 23rd July 2024, Class X and PU Students of the National Junior College, Barkur organized a programme to spread awareness on prevention of sexual harassment and to understand POCSO Law 2012 provisions, in the College Auditorium at 11.55 am.
“In the light of Teenage College days being full of excitement and fun, where young men and women get to experience new things, new friends and new environment, there are chances to be victims of both miss-understanding and misleading by few, at times resulting in abuse or exploitation, such interactive sessions and awareness programmes are proving to be very useful” – the Resource person from the Brahmmavar Police Station Mrs Sawmya informed the attentive gathering. She was explaining how young minds are grossly mislead by media, various forms cyber crimes, how to be cautious and careful while travelling in public transport, the need to avoid dealing with unknown people etc in her well informative speech.
Principal Prof U Kottraswamy, while thanking the Police Dept and Mrs Sawmya for her insightful precautions and awareness, he added how strict the POCSO legislation is and this is enforced by the Govt to ensure safety and security of youth below 18 years.
While concluding the very useful session to raise awareness among students and to understand the need to prevent sexual harassment, Mrs Jyothy Lecturer in Kannada, presented and summarised the Seminar. Prof Archibald Furtado the Administrative coordinator of National Educational Institutions too was on the dais, all the teaching staff of the PU section, and High School and non teaching staff attended the informative lecture.
