Udupi, 18 Feb: The people of Moodubelle, near here, have decided to boycott the upcoming village council elections citing ill state of roads and zero developments in their villages that are predominantly agrarian communities.
The villagers led by members of Yuvaka Mandala approached the peoples’ representatives of their village council Moodubelle, urged MLA and plead the concerned officials at the secretariat in state capital, demanding lifeline roads be repaired and widened to make it motorable at all seasons since the last many years. They also have written letter to PM Narendra Modi. However, all their follow ups with state/district/local administration and PMO are futile.
At this backdrop, nearly 200 local residents decided to boycott the upcoming gram panchayat elections by displaying the banner of their intent at an intersection of roads in Mooduebellle, near here. They set the deadline for the office bearers of Moodubelle gram panchayat to improve the infrastructure by April 2020; otherwise they would boycott the upcoming village council elections.
A multi-purpose vented dam-cum- bridge was completed in June 2010, for light vehicular traffic. It links Belle Lions Seva Bhavan – Guddabettu - Ankudur - Holebadi Area - Kabyadi Pamboor. This road is already updated in Google Map. Meanwhile, the irony is that peoples’ representatives have not updated themselves and taken keen interest in developing all weather roads that would be boon for farming, tourism and prosperity to all.

Thanks Bellevision for covering the sorry state of the road. People are indefinitely waiting for good road for almost a decade now. People representatives and beurocrats should remember that providing a good road for people is their responsibility and having a decent, all season motorable roads across villages is not luxury anymore. 21st century villages can t live with 20th century roads. | |
