Madikeri, 15 July 2010: Monsoon has been playing the traunt in Kodagu for the last one week. Expecting a good rainfall in the coming days, farmers are engaged in transplantation of seedlings in the paddy field. Transplantation of seedlings were seen near Bethri in the fields of Bopuni and Muthappa on Tuesday. Instead of the traditional, the farmers are engaged in transplanting seedlings from ‘Doddi’ variety of paddy to get yield at the earliest.

The paddy is grown in 35,000 hectare in the district. With the delay in rainfall, transplantation has started just now.One can see farmers engaged in setting the field across the district. Generally, the transplantation of paddy saplings should have been over by now, but the delay in monsoon forced the labourers to postpone the agriculture activities for some time. Owing to the delay in rainfall, farmers are going for high and quick yielding variety of paddy.
