Mangalore : Upset with academic performance, engineering student commits suicide

Mangalore, 20 May, 2014 : Unable to bear his reported failure in six subjects, a student of Sridevi Engineering College, Kenjaru ended his life by jumping into a water quarry in Karambar.
Shashikumar (25), who hails from Kokkada, Shishila, was a mechanical engineering student. He is survived by father Shivakumar, a bank employee in Shishila, two sisters and an elder brother. He was staying in a rented house in Karambar along with two others.
Sources claim that Shashikumar was driven to taken this extreme step owing to his failure in six subjects in the first and second year examinations.
First suicide attempt in the room :
It is learnt that Shashikumar had also tried to comit suicide by hanging himself on Saturday at 3.00 a,m. However, this was averted by his roommates. After sometime, he reportedly ran out of the house and since then had gone missing. The roommates immediately informed the matter to his parents. On Monday, May 19 morning, his body was found in the water quarry where he often used to sit and study.
Bajpe police have registered a case.
