Decision on anti-superstition bill after discussion: CM
Mangalore, 08 Nov 2013: In the face of severe criticism of the Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices Bill, 2013 from the opposition and from within the party, chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday clarified that a decision on the bill would be taken only after discussing its pros and cons.
"The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) which was tasked with preparation of anti-superstitious bill has given us two drafts and they are being reviewed. We have not started discussions yet," he said to queries from mediapersons who met him at the Mangalore International Airport on Friday. The CM was on his way to attend a private function at Moodabidri.
Regarding demand by some organizations and parents of Nirmala (name changed) that CBI investigation should be supervised by the apex court, Siddaramaiah said: We cannot (ask Supreme Court). As per the demand from various quarters, the state has decided to hand over the investigations to the CBI.
On sugarcane growers’ demand for minimum support price, the chief minister said that it would be done within two days by the sugarcane price fixing board. "I appeal to the farmers to maintain peace till then," he remarked. He replied in the negative regarding rape charges on Sringeri MLA Jeevaraj. "I don’t know anything about it," he said.
