Mangalore fishing port Phase III action plan getting ready

Mangalore, 15 June 2010: Government has been giving emphasis to provide basic facilities to fishermen and action plan has been chalked out for the development of fishing port in Mangalore, said District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar. 

 
Speaking after inaugurating ‘Janani ganga,’ a boat provided by the Bengre Maha Jana Sabha as part of its silver jubilee celebrations to provide ferry service from Bengre to Mangalore here on Monday, he said an action plan of Rs 57 crore for the III phase of Mangalore fishing port has been prepared. The proposal has been sent to Centre for approval.

State government has sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the construction of a jetty at Bengre and Mangalore to facilitate the passengers. A sum of Rs 40 lakh has been released for the ambitious hanging bridge between Bengre and Thannirbhavi.  Corporator Shakunthala D Karkera, Ferry President Chethan Bengre  were present.
