Hassan, 13 May 2013: An eleven-foot-long cobra that ventured into inhabited area was rescued by a reptile expert here on Sunday May 11.
The cobra was found on the loft of Kiran Kumar’s house, Hongadahalla village of Sakleshpur taluk, near here at about 8.30am on Sunday. It had swallowed a large snake that was in the nearby lake and crawled up in the loft.
The terrified locals informed Malnad Janapara Horata Samiti president Kishore Kumar, who arrived with reptile expert Sesappa, Punit, Sasikumar, Chandru and managed to rescue the cobra and released at Bisile Reserve Forest by Sunday night.
The cobra that is usually found in Western Ghats is venturing into inhabited lands owing to shortage of food that was caused by aforestation. The rat snakes are the sought after food for these cobras that come searching in inhabited areas.
The locals were terrified of cobra that was found in their vicinity since a few days, and are relieved of fear to venture out.
