Mangalore: Missing girl’s body found
Mangalore, 04 Sep 2012: The body of the school girl who had allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Nethravathi River about a week back was found on the Manjeshwar beach in Kerala on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sonali Patel (15), daughter of Gujarat based supari trader Ashwin V Patel of Chikkamudnur village, Puttur. The standard 10 student of Sudana school, Puttur, Sonali had jumped from a bridge into River Nethravathi on August 27 from the Panemangalore Bridge near Bantwal. Based on the information provided by an eyewitness, emergency and rescue services were pressed into service, but her body could not be found.
The body was found by local villagers of Kundukolike at Manjeshwar beach and informed the police. Sonali’s parents identified her body after being informed by Puttur police.
Police said Sonali had left for school along with her siblings Pragati, Sujal and cousin Diya but did not return home with them saying that she had to go to a local store, when it started raining. After that, police suspect that she had come to Panemangalore and jumped off the bridge. She was reportedly weak in studies and this reason is being attributed as the cause of her extreme step.
