Infosys delays freshers’ joining by 3 months; other cos on track

Bangalore, 18 Jun 2012: Infosys has delayed its deadline for on-boarding of employees hired from campuses by one quarter (three months) from the usual March-April period to the June quarter.

 

This means, students who have already got their offer letters from Infosys in 2011 will begin joining from September 2012, extending up to June 2013. “Earlier we used to close it by March-April, but this year, it has been extended for another three months,” an Infosys HR person told.

 

According to reports, Infosys has already offered jobs to 28,000 people from campuses and this delay means that those students will have to wait for another quarter to join the six-month training programme the company conducts on induction.

 

The delay in inducting freshers, industry sources say, is mainly because the company has surplus people on its bench in relation to the expected projects. Infosys has been struggling to match the growth projections of its peers as well as the industry growth forecast by Nasscom.

 

CEO of executive search firm, LeadershipCapital, B S Murthy said that this move by Infosys might be to buy some time it would be needing to recruit people based on projects it gets.

 

Infosys, in April, announced its hiring target for FY’13 at 35,000, which is a 22 per cent fall from 45,000 employees it recruited in 2011-12.

 

Other large IT companies, however, are not delaying on-boarding of campus recruitments. Cognizant, for example, has already began the process in May, this year.

 

Similarly, HCL Technologies and Wipro said there is no change in their schedule.

 

“We completed the on-boarding of campus recruits of FY’11-12 in January 2012 and are on track to achieve our target of completing the on-boarding of FY’13 recruits during the course of the financial  year,” said Wipro’s IT Business Senior Vice-President and Global HR Head, Saurabh Govil.
