Stray dogs attack children
- 10 kids below the age of 10 were grievously injured in the incident
Srinivasapura, 13 May 2010: Ten children were injured when a pack of stray dogs attacked them here on Wednesday morning.
The children were playing on the streets in Hyder Ali Mohallah, Zakir Hussain Mohallah and Azad Road, when a pack of dogs attacked as many as 20 of them. Eye witnesses told Deccan Herald that 10 children below the age of 10 were grievously injured in the incident.
The ferocious dogs bit Shaban on his forehead and he needed 20 stitches. Another boy, Wasim was bitten near his mouth and Kumar was bitten in his rear.
The children were admitted to the Government Hospital and several nursing homes here. Two of them, who sustained deep bite injuries, were shifted to Kolar for further treatment.
Protest
Parents of the children staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding the Town Municipal Council to cull the ferocious dogs.
TMC president B M Prakash visited the Government Hospital and consoled the children and their parents.
He promised them that the Town Municipal Council would make arrangements to cull the dogs on Thursday morning. “We recently killed about 60 street dogs to reduce their menace. However, there is stiff opposition from animal organisations against the culling of dogs,” he told Deccan Herald.
Prakash added that the number of stray dogs had increased due to the profussion of the meat stalls in the town.
“We will ask the owners to shift the stalls out of residential areas,” TMC president said.
