Manipura, 09 April 2012: In the background of the incident that the Manipura Panchayath President misbehaved with a woman over mobile phone and that the President refused to come to Panchayath Office to discuss it, the villagers became angry and protested by locking the Panchayath Office. A woman Sunita, a resident of Kote, Manipura Grama, phoned to the mobile phone of Manipura Grama Panchayath President Hassan Shaikh Mohammed on Friday night at around 11.00 pm saying that the water in the tank is getting wasted and that there is no water supply to her house. But the President got angry and said that you people always have problems, what can I do if the water is not coming and misbehaved, complained the woman to the Kaup Police Station.
Coming to know about this matter, her husband and other villagers went to the Panchayath Office and since the Panchayath President was not there, they enquired with the Development Officer, who called the President to come but the President refused to come and said that the people can submit their petition and go. Angered with this the villagers protested by locking the Panchayath Office.
The Development Officer informed Kaup Police Station about the locking of the Office, but the delay in the arrival of the Police caused Development Officer to be locked inside the Officer for two hours. After the Police came they opened the lock, called the President to the Panchayath Office, discussed the matter and then called both the parties to the Police Station.
