Mangalore, 23 August 2011: SpiceJet is all set to touch down in this coastal city with the winter schedule commencing from October 25. SpiceJet has given its proposal to Airports Authority of India (AAI) to start two flights from Mangalore to Bangalore, and one each to Hyderabad, and Chennai.
SpiceJet had initially proposed plan to start Mangalore-Hyderabad flight from August 15, but is introducing it from September 30, Airport director M R Vasudeva said.
As per the proposal given by SpiceJet to AAI, the flight to Hyderabad flight will arrive at the new terminal building at Kenjar here at 3pm and depart at 3.30pm. Chennai flight starting October 25 will arrive at 8pm and leave at 8.30 pm. This flight would be a propeller driven Bombardier Jet. The proposed flights to Bangalore starting from October 25 are for morning and evening, exact timings which are yet to be notified by the airline, Vasudeva noted.
Jet Airways a week-ago introduced an additional flight to Mumbai from Mangalore taking its total domestic operations from this city to five. Jet Airways hitherto operated two flights each to Bangalore and Mumbai respectively every day. Kingfisher shortly will reintroduce its flight to Mumbai using an Airbus A321 aircraft. This would take total domestic operations each day to 38 movements (19 flights) and 50 weekly movements of international flights.
Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of a two-day national seminar on Indian aviation and tourism organised by Mangalore Airport Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee here on Monday, Vasudeva said Mangalore airport will also initiate the process of renewing its license in the next two months. The license granted to us is valid till December 2011, he said adding that 56 airports across the country have been granted license by the DGCA.
