Rs. 1,985-crore district credit plan for Udupi

Udupi: D.V. Sadananda Gowda, MP, released the Udupi District Credit Plan 2010-11 at the District Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting here on Monday.
The plan projects an outlay of Rs. 1,985 crore, which is 19.65 per cent more than the previous year’s plan. The plan has allocated Rs. 461 crore to primary sector as against Rs. 479 crore of the previous year.
Huge increase
There is an increase of 74 per cent over the previous year’s allocation for the secondary sector, taking into account the vast scope for lending that exists in cashew processing sector. This year, the secondary sector has been set aside Rs. 449 crore (Rs. 258 crore of last fiscal) and the tertiary sector Rs. 581 crore (Rs. 502 crore last year). In the primary sector, Rs. 156 crore has been provided for crop loans, an increase of 9 per cent over the previous year’s plan. The allocation to non-priority sector is Rs. 494 crore (increased by 17 per cent over last year). Priority sector has been given Rs. 1,491 crore (up by 20.4 per cent).
Mr. Gowda said that the Udupi District Human Resource Development Report had been released a couple of days back. The credit plan should aim at filling the gaps in various sectors pointed out by the report, he said.
President of the zilla panchayat Gladys Almeida said that banks should help poor people in the district.
Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat D. Pranesh Rao said the credit plan should give priority to the development of weaker sections of society.
Assistant General Manager of Syndicate Bank H. Vasanth Nayak, District Development Manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Praveenraj Udupa and Lead District Manager B. Sathyanarayana were present.
