Mangalore, 09 May 2011: Chairman of Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd. (KMF) G. Somasekhara Reddy said here on Sunday that the federation was planning to set up a mega dairy in Bangalore with a capacity to process 10 lakh litres of milk a day.
It would be set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 80 crore, he said.
He was addressing a gathering after releasing 400 gm curd packets brought out by Dakshina Kannada District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Societies’ Union Ltd. (DKMUL) at its silver jubilee celebrations. According to him, DKMUL was the first milk union in the State to release 400 gm curd packets.
Proposal
Mr. Reddy said KMF would send a proposal to the Government on setting up the mega dairy. It would be set up within a year after getting the approval. He said that KMF had proposed a cheese manufacturing unit in Bangalore in association with New Zealand-based Fonterra Cooperative Group as a joint venture. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect would be signed soon. It would have an annual production capacity of 50 tonne. Cheese would be sold under the brand name Nandini.
He said the KMF had plans to increase its turnover from Rs. 5,080 crore in 2010-11 to Rs. 8,000 crore in the next two years.
