Dubai: Indian Men’s Team and Sri Lankan Women’s Team conquer Fourth Asian Throw Ball Championship

Dubai, 26 November 2011: The exciting Fourth Asian Throw Ball Championship for Men and Women was held in the Indoor Stadium of J B School, Dubai on Friday, 25 November 2011. Three Men’s Teams from India, Sri Lanka and UAE Expats and five Women’s Teams from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and UAE Expats participated in this championship.
Walter Nandalike, the Editor-in-chief of daijiworld.com inaugurated the championship tournament and he urged all participating teams to play in true spirit of the game and uplift the glory of the sports.

In the exciting and exhilarating final between India and Sri Lanka, India defeated Sri Lanka in a nail biting finish in the third set. The league matches concluded in the morning session.
Semifinal matches played in the afternoon session after the lunch break between UAE Expats B and Sri Lanka & UAE Expats A and India. Both India and Sri Lanka defeated their opponents and qualified for finals. UAE Expats A had the consolation of being in the third place.
In the exciting finals, Sri Lanka beat India in the third set to win the Championship Trophy.
Mr. M. P. Singh-the Indian Consulate General attended the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest and along with him Girish Shetty-President of Asian Throw Ball Federation, UAE Chapter, T Ramanna-Secretary General of Asian Throw Ball Federation, C. R. Shetty-Vice President of Asian Throw Ball Federation , Padma Latha-Secretary of Sri Lankan Throw Ball Federation, Maqbool Arain-Secretary of Pakistan Throw Ball Federation, Shekar Shetty of Arab Udupi Restaurant, Praveen Shetty of Fortune Group of Hotels were present on the dais.
Flowers and mementos were handed over to the dignitaries by the members of the Throw Ball Federation. Earlier, Girish Shetty welcomed the dignitaries , teams, officials and the gathering.
Prize distribution ceremony held soon after the formal stage function.
The following teams were the winners of the Fourth Asian Throw Ball Championship:
Men’s Teams:
1. India – Winners
2. Sri Lanka – 1st Runner up
3. UAE Expats – 2nd Runner Up
Women’s Teams:
1. Sri Lanka – Winners
2. India – 1st Runner Up
3. UAE Expats A- 2nd Runner Up
Consolation medals were given to the young Pakistani team.
The prize distribution programme was compeered by Mr. Tantry and the inaugural function was anchored by Denzil Fernandes. A large number of Throw Ball enthusiasts were present to witness this very exciting tournament. Organizers promised that they would organize next year’s Throw Ball Championship Tournament on a much larger scale with greater participation from many more countries.

It is a very good activity, good for health and good for international relationship and furthering brother(sister)hood in a country of working for daily bread.
