Moodubelle, 01 September 2010: She is young and has great potential to become a great painter. Meet Divya Amin of Moodubelle who had recently participated in the painting exhibition organized by Artists’ Forum of Udupi through Drishya School of Arts at Gallery Dristi from 22nd to 28th August 2010. She was one of the 28 renowned painters who had exhibited their paintings.

Divay was born on 4th December 1986 as the last among three children of Shekhar and Baby Amin. Divya’s elder sister, Priya manages the Blossom Beauty Parlour in Moodubelle and her brother, Sandeep works in Udupi.

Divya had her primary and high school education in Moodubelle and PUC in St. Cicelies Girls PU College, Udupi. Later, she did her graduation from the Poorna Prajna College, Udupi. As a student, Divya was interested in drawing right from the primary school. While in the fourth standard she participated in drawing competition and secured first prize for her drawing of a peacock.

While studying in the tenth standard, Divya developed greater interest in drawing and painting, especially in water colours. Her talent was recognized by the drawing teacher, Yeshwant Shenoi, the drawing teacher of St. Lawrence High School who helped her in developing further her talent for painting. While in the tenth standard, Divya got the first prize in a competition for her painting of a pair of butterflies.

After completing SSLC in 2003, Divya was at home without knowing what she should do next. Her aunt, Mrs. Veena Deepak advised her to join English Speaking Course in Vivekananda English Speaking Institution, Udupi. When she went to take admission, she was surprised to see a number of excellent pencil shading portraits on the wall and inquired about the person who had drawn those portraits. She was told that the sketches were done by one Rajesh Shetty from Atthradi.

Having known that Divya had a talent for drawing and painting and realizing her interest in this form of art, Divya’s aunt, Mrs. Veena Deepak suggested to her that she could pursue both English Speaking Course and painting by attending the English Speaking Course in the morning and attend the Drishya School of Arts near Alankar theatre in the afternoon.

Divya did two months of English Speaking Course and continued her drawing classes in Drishya School of Arts. Meanwhile, she got admission to PUC Course in St. Cicelies PU College, Udupi and continued attending the drawing and painting classes till she reached Second PUC.

In the beginning Divya was taught the pencil shading in the Drishya School of Arts. Meanwhile, there was an advertisement in Udyavani for state level ‘Anche-kunche’ pencil shading competition to draw the picture of Dr. Shivram Karantha sponsored by the Rotary Club. Divya participated in this competition while she was doing her First PUC and also attending the Drishya School of Arts. In this competition, Divya secured the prestigious first prize.

After winning the first prize at the state level competition, Divya decided to try her hand at painting in water colour. During this time a painting exhibition was held by Drishya School of Arts in which Divya presented her water colour paintings. In one painting she depicted a temple and in another, a row of temple pillars. Both paintings were purchased by two different art lovers. After completing Second PUC in Arts subject, Divya decided to join for graduation course in the PPC College, Udupi. As she had to concentrate on her studies, Divya stopped attending the Drishya School of Arts.

After completing graduation, Divya joined Reliance Web World Udupi where she worked for four months and later started working in Prakash Retail Private Limited as HR Assistant where she still works since one year.

Though busy in her daily work schedule, Divya continued her interest in painting during spare time. She got a big opportunity recently when she participated in a painting exhibition of Artists’ Forum, Udupi put up by Drishya School of Arts at Gallery Dristi from 22nd to 28th August 2010. In this prestigious painting exhibition, twenty eight painters presented two paintings each. Divya’s acrylic paintings included a Rajasthani Haveli scene and Padmanabhapuram temple scene. Her paintings were appreciated by many viewers and art lovers.

Divya is keen in pursuing her interest in painting and would like to experiment with other mediums such as oil painting and would like to participate in many more exhibitions. Divya is grateful to Mr. Ramesh Rao, Principal of Drishya School of Arts and also the President of the Artists Forum Udupi and all the art teachers-Ganesh, Prasad, Prakash and Shailesh for their encouragement and continuous support in developing her talent for painting. Divya has great potential to become a great painter and make a name in the art world.
