M’lore: MIT Students demonstrate Prototype of Disable-friendly Unique 3-Wheeler

Mangalore, 29 May 2014: Four students of final year automobile engineering of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal have demonstrated their prototype of an unique 3-wheeler automobile with a powerful engine to easily drive on thorough ways and city roads, during a test run at the parking lot of Hotel Woodlands, here on Wednesday May 28 evening.

 
The students group comprised Sayyed Abdul Tavab, Prakyat Raj, Apoorva Prem and Satyan developed this prototype that they claim would be ideal for physically handicapped. It’s also better suited for driving of any other driver.  It’s cost effective as it has automatic transmission, the first of its kind in India.

 

 
The prototype has front wheel of Suzuki Hawabusa and rear mag wheels.  Maruti 1000 CC engine is mounted on the shaft of chassis between rear wheels.  A rider and a pillion rider can sit comfortably in the middle.  It has the extended handle of motor cycle.  It has 2 separate petrol tanks, one is placed just like any bike and the other is shoved below the chassis like Nano car.  The students have indigenously manufactured most of the components and sourced locally the essential parts, like Bullet Thunderbird headlights etc.

 
Sayyed Abdul Tawab, MIT student and resident of Gurpur – Kaikamba, here said, ‘The prototype can cover a maximum speed of 140 kilometers per hour and has potential for commercial production.  It has cost them around Rs 3 lac. We have been guided by Professor Ravishankar Baliga and HOD Professor Rammohan Pai to manufacture this unique prototype,’ said Tawab.
