Mangalore: Akashwani played vital role in preserving Kannada & Culture; Minister Ramanath

Mangalore, Mar 6, 2014 : The city All India Radio (AIR) Akashwani station has played a vital role in preserving Kannada language, its distinct culture since the past 38 years. It has the credit to foster the budding artistes, litterateurs and cultural artistes. All this has been made possible by the Akashwani staff, said the state forests and Dakshina Kannada (DK) district-in-charge minister B Ramanat Rai.
The minister Rai was speaking after inaugurating the annual day celebration of Akashwani city station, here on Tuesday March 4.
‘We begin our day by listening to Akashwani. Despite the competitions from press and e-media, visual media; Akashwani has retained its niche among radio listeners. It’s the only media by the people, to the people and for the people,’ said minister Rai. He urged the Akashwani staff to work without bias.
Speaking on the occasion, DK Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said the city station of Akashwani has been innovating on programmes to broadcast for the loyal listeners. It functions efficiently in reaching the government facilities to the people in remote villages. The staff has been exemplary in reaching the news in lightning speed to the listeners. The staff has been successful in making optimum use of modern technology, said DC Ibrahim.
Akashwani station director Dr Vasant Kumar Perla in his presidential address said that the news is categorized as national, state and regional. It broadcasts programmes to the interests of all people and their age-groups. In spite of the shortage of staff it has been trying its best to broadcast quality programmes, said Dr Perla.
Akashwani ‘A’ grade artiste Nagesh A Bappanadu and the retired senior announcer Muddu Moodubelle were felicitated in recognition of their valuable service.
The prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions on the same occasion.
Akashwani Recreation Club secretary K Ashok welcomed the gathering. Sadanand Holla proposed vote of thanks. Dr Sharabenddra Swamy and Concepta Fernandes compered the programme.
Florin Roache and James Fernandes conducted different games for the staff.
Akashwani staff and their family members presented variety cultural shows as part of entertainment programme.
Dr Sadanand Perla and group presented a laughter session that enthralled the audiences.
