Udupi: RSB Sangh President Upendra Nayak urges Community to Contribute Konkani Literature

Udupi, 4 Mar 2014: Konkani is a rich language that is the mother tongue of multi-religious people.  It is being spoken by over 40 groups including Hindu, Muslim and Christians in Karnataka.  The state administration has been supporting Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy to preserve Konkani and its distinct culture and literature.  Konkani literature is enriched in Catholic community.  Likewise, the need of the hour is for Rajapura Saraswat Brahmin (RSB) community to create their own Konkani literature, said ZP president and ESB Sangh president B Upendra Nayak.


 
Upendra was speaking after inaugurating ‘Ghar Ghar Konkani’ programme that was held at the leadership of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy past president Kasargod Chinna at the residence of B Anantaram Bhat, Devi Nagar, near Parkala, here on Sunday March 2.


 
Konkani Sahitya Academy former member B Pundalika Marate in his introductory address offered information on Konkani and its literature, support from Academy for sustenance of Konkani.

 


 
Speaking on the occasion, Ghar Ghar Konkani crusader Kasargod Chinna said that out of over 40 Konkani-speaking groups in Karnataka, only a few groups wee able to get benefits from Konkani Sahitya Academy.  There has been no awareness on their mother tongue in many such groups.  Despite, they have literary treasurer, rich folklore; nothing has been put into records.  Therefore, in order to create mass awareness to foster unity among Konkani-speaking groups, Ghar Ghar Konkani programmes are being embarked upon, said Kasargod Chinna.


 
Gouda Saraswat Brahmin (GSB), RSB, Kudaladevasta community poets, litterateurs participated in the programme.


 
Gopi Hirebettu, Srikanti Prabhu, Kusuma Kamat, K C Prabhu, Sadhana Kini, Sumati Ramesh Kamat, Maya Kamat, Harini, Vijayalaxmi Kamat, Dattatreya Nayak presented self-written poetry, short stories, jokes, mimicry, one-act play, etc.   


 
 
The town councilor Narasimha Nayak, RSB women wing president Suma S Nayak, Ashok Prabhu, Mattar Kamalaksha Kini was present at the dais.


 
B Anantaram Bhat welcomed the gathering.  Ideal Keshav Nayak, Madhusudan Nayak, Shivaraya Nayak, Kadtal Mohandas Nayak and Sadanand Nayak offered bouquets of flowers.  Shanta Nayak Devinagar compered the programme.  B Anantarama Bhat proposed vote of thanks.
