Mangalore: U T Khader inaugurates peritoneal dialysis centre

Mangalore, 3 March 2014: Minister for Health and Family welfare U T Khader inaugurated the first ever Peritoneal Dialysis Centre in a government hospital in State, at Wenlock District Hospital in Mangalore, on Sunday.

Speaking to media persons, the Minister said that the government has fulfilled its assurance given two months ago, by establishing the centre. “This is a revolutionary step in health care sector.

 

In the first phase, Peritoneal (Home) Dialysis Centres are established in two hospitals in State including Wenlock and K C General Hospital in Bangalore. Based on the response, we are going to extend the facility to three places in Karnataka.

This facility provides dialysis treatment at doorsteps, but patients should maintain hygiene.” he said. Peritoneal Dialysis kits were distributed to five selected beneficiaries. Meanwhile, Khader informed that the Wenlock Hospital is empanelled under Aarogyashree.   Rs 13,000 per patient.

 

 

DMO Rajeshwari said that 20 patients are going to get the peritoneal dialysis kits. Doctors select the needy patients according to their health condition. Kits won’t be distributed if there is no use. Using the kits, patients themselves can go through dialysis thrice a day, each time for 10 to 15 minutes.

 

Trained co-ordinators will visit the patient’s home to teach the right method. The cost of the facility is Rs 13,000 per patient for every month, she said.

 

Clubfoot Clinic in Wenlock

The Clubfoot Clinic established under the aegis of Cure International at Wenlock Hospital was inaugurated on Sunday. A workshop was organised on ‘Ponseti Method of Clubfoot Correction’ on the occasion.

 

Speaking at the workshop, renowned surgeon Dr Rudra Prasad said that, about 50,000 children born with club foot problem in India, every year. Club foot is common in Asian countries, especially among middle class families. No body knows exactly why the club foot problem appears among children, but it has treatment, he added.
