M’lore: Kadri Park comes alive as Annual Flower Show begins

Mangalore, Feb 15, 2014 : The annual flower show was inaugurated at Kadri Park, here on Saturday February 15.
The state forests, ecology and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Bantwal Ramanath Rai inaugurated the flower show at Kadri Park, here on Saturday.
All those gardening enthusiasts have plenty to explore at 35 stalls exhibiting unique plants and flowers in all shapes and colors.
The entrance greets the visitor with an elephant decorated with greenery and pair of dummy buffalos depicting Kambla, buffalo’s race of coastal district was decorated with over 50,000 Dutch roses.
Out of 35 stalls, 10 are put up government agencies, the rest are put up by NGOs and self-help-groups. All the stalls have different attractions for every visitors, ranging from collection of orchids, vegetable saplings, farm produce, milk products, seeds, flowers, farming manuals, organic and natural foods etc.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo appreciated the theme of the exhibition that has the local flavor.
A visitor to the exhibition Arati Dubey from Bejai said that she is into the hobby of terrace gardening at home and she has come to buy a few vegetable saplings to add to her collection.
Mangalore University College physics Professor Dr Indira J showcased her skills crafting beautiful objects out of coconut shells. The stalls have different types of crafts. She further said, ‘It’s only for exhibition and not for sale. I am here to inspire school children, said Dr Indira.
The district deputy director of horticulture H D Yogesh was present on the occasion.
