Udupi: Konkani would be sustained longer by New Generation – Kasargod Chinna

Udupi, 6 Jan 2014: The mother tongue and mother are equally important for an individual. Meanwhile, Konkani and its distinct culture will sustain longer only when the elders educate the new generation on its significance and need for posterity, said the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy former president Kasargod Chinna.
Kasargod Chinna was speaking after inaugurating Ghar Ghar Konkani programme that was held at Samarpit Nivas, Indira Nagar, Manipal, here on Sunday January 5.
‘Konkani has its own significance. It’s the mother tongue of 41 different sects in the country. Konkani culture is different from other natives. Konkani culture has splendid history,’ said Kasargod Chinna. He advised the parents and elderly to educate the new generation in sustaining the mother tongue and its cultural hierarchy. He also stressed that it’s the responsibility of each Konkan.
Dr Ammunje Arvind Nayak presided the function.
Vaishali Venkatesh Nayak, Vidhya Shenoy, Mamata Kini, Narayani, Dr Nagesh Kumar, Gayatri Shet spoke on Konkani folk-songs and traditional practices of Konkan community on the occasion.
