Mangalore: Inter-Parish Cricket Tourney of City Deanery Inaugurated at Padua High School Grounds

Mangalore, 27 Oct 2013: As part of St Sebastian’s parish, Bendore centenary celebrations, the cultural Committee organized an inter-parish cricket tournament for city deanery at Padua High School grounds, Nantoor, here on Sunday October 27.

 

All the teams marched in procession to the venue from the main entrance. Corporation Bank general manager Clement G Pinto inaugurated the tournament on the occasion. The tournament began with an invocation.

 

Congratulating the organizers, Clement G Pinto said, ‘Sports will keep a person healthy. We have 3  healers in this world, the first healer is doctor, they treat our sickness and we call the doctors as healers. The second healer is the one who train the people in sports and yoga. The third healer is spiritual and they are the priests because they fulfill the needs of our soul. To remain healthy we have to take part in various sports. Sportsmanship is very vital to remain healthy in this modern era,’ said Clement.

 

 

Bendore parish priest Fr Antony Serrao, stressing on the participation, said that winning and losing is not important in sports, but sportsman’s spirit is essential. Losing is beginning of the success because when one fails to achieve something, he will try hard to achieve it, Fr Serrao.

 

Fr Serrao congratulated all the teams for taking part in the tournament and wished them all the best.

 

The corporator Naveen R D’Souza, centenary cultural Committee convener Oswald Pais, Austin Peres, Fr Michael Santhumayor, KMC Professor Dr Christopher C Pais, Bendore parish council vice president Ronald Francis Walder were present at the dais.

 

The centenary cricket tournament in-charge Christopher D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Leslie Rego compered the programme. Milagres Pre-University College principal John Pais proposed the vote of thanks.
