Mangalore, 3 Oct 2013: The state health and family welfare minister U T Khader held a press meet at the state-run guesthouse here on Wednesday October 2 at 5.00pm.
Addressing the media persons, minister Khader said, ‘In order to develop the infrastructural facilities in the health department, we have planned to build a Arogya Soudha in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district at the cost of Rs 8 crore. We have not yet finalized the plot to construct the building, but we have identified a plot behind Hotel Amanthrana, Attavar, here. Once we build the Soudha, all the health department related offices will be shifted there. We have already started building State Aroghya Soudha in Bangalore 3 months ago at the cost of Rs 80 crore. We will build the Arogya Soudhas in each district to improve the healthcare services in state-run hospitals,’ said minister Khader.
The minister Khader further said that they have urged the education department to approve 1 degree college, high schools and ITI, but the government has approved 2 high schools and 1 degree college. We will try our best to start an ITI in Kotekar, added minister Khader.
In Konaje near Mangala Gangotri campus of Mangalore University, there is 13 acres of land and the government will build low-cost houses for middle class people at affordable price. We are trying our level best to solve the problems of fishermen. Fishermen were demanding to construct a fisheries jetty in Kotepura at the limits of Ullal town panchayat, here. The government has sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore for the jetty and additional Rs 3.5 crore will be sanctioned for the project, said minister Khader.
Medical Council of India will make it mandatory for the doctors to work in rural areas. All the blood banks should be inter-linked as it will be easier to check the availability of blood anywhere in the state in case of emergencies, emphasized minister Khader.
The minister Khader also said, ‘Prevention is better than cure. We need to bring awareness among the public about various diseases and their prevention. After becoming the minister, my aim is not to increase the hospitals but to improve the efficiency in healthcare services. The health department will make prostate-specific-antigen (PSA)test compulsory because without knowing about our diseases we eat all types of food. By this test we can control our diet and prevent many diseases and lead a healthy life,’ said minister Khader.
