Mangalore, 18 Sep 2013: ‘By extending support to Congress, I have made the greatest mistake of my life,’ said the former PM and JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda.
Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Circuit House here on September 18, regretted over the mistake that toppled all his calculations.
Speaking on the occasion, the newly-appointed JDS Karnataka state president Krishnappa said, ‘Being the president of the party, it is my duty to strengthen the party, to unite all the members and bring them together to work for strengthening the party at grass-root level,’ said Krishnappa. Within 6 to 7 months the general elections will be announced declared and we have to prepare for the elections. We will contest from all the 28 constituencies, added Krishnappa. He also said, ‘After serving the Congress party for 35 years, they denied me a ticket to contest the assembly elections. I decided to resign from the Congress party and joined the JDS,’ said Krishnappa.
Krishnappa further said that he will tour 30 districts, and campaign where JDS is in a position to contest in general elections. The first priority will be given to organize the party in all the districts and prepare it for the Lok Sabha elections, said Krishnappa.
Deve Gowda said that the Congress and BJP are trying to finish off JDS. ‘I will not allow both these parties to destroy JDS. How the BJP came to power in the district? It is because we had supported them. My first mistake was to extend support to Congress and the second one to support the BJP. Now both the parties are trying to finish JDS which is not possible. I have built this party in every stage and I want to retain this party till my last breath,’ said Deve Gowda.
Kumaraswamy has his own base and he has worked to strengthen the party. There is a rumor that JDS is a father-son party and represents only 1 community. After discussing with all the leaders, we have appointed Krishnappa as the state president. This is a clear message to the people who spread rumors, said Deve Gowda.
Deve Gowda further said that the union government led by UPA is marred with several scams. Security of our borders is at risk. The Indian rupee has fallen to a record against US $ in 64 years of history. Rape cases have drastically increased and the union government has failed to curb corruption and rape.
Deve Gowda urged the people to extend their support to JDS to curb rampant corruption. It’s a challenge to confront the issue and JDS has accepted the challenge and determined to contest in all 28 constituencies of Karnataka and hope to come to power, assured Deve Gowda.
When media persons queried whether Deve Gowda has shortlisted PM candidate in JDS, he said, ‘Don’t think about any individual but think for the country. When there is communal disharmony and internal fight in other parties, how can such parties bring harmony and peace in the country? In JDS) there are number of leaders who are very faithful and have dedicated their life for the sake of the party. We need to create confidence in the party workers and encourage them,’ said Deve Gowda.
