M’lore: Coastal Regulatory Zone essential for Coastal Conservation: ADC Dayanand

Mangalore, 11 Sep 2013: The state ministry of forests and environment introduced Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) Act in 1991, in order to conserve the coastal Karnataka owing to excessive human interference.   The amendment to the said Act was effected in 2011 after studying the merits and demerits for the integral conservation of entire coast, said Addition Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dayanand K A of Dakshina Kannada district.

 

ADC Dayanand was speaking after inaugurating three-day workshop on CRZ that was organized by state department of forests and environment at Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday September 10.  

 

‘The civilization has progressed and we are living in mechanical era, we excessively use the nature’s resources with any sustenance, which made it essential to protect the environment by strictly implementing CRZ Act,’ said ADC Dayanand.

 

 

At the backdrop of notification of 1991 failed to address the grievances of people living along the coast, fresh notification was issued in 2011.  Meanwhile, the training was organized in association with state environment Institute to the officers serving in coastal district, to successfully implement the Act, added ADC Dayanand.

 

The state environment Institute director K H Vinayakumar in his introductory address said that the Institute has been functioning under ministry of environment has been engaged in training the officers to educate the masses on eco-environment, said Vinayakumar.   It has been offering training the doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, gram panchayat members, panchayat development officers on rain harvesting, environmental conservation, disposal of medical waste, CRZ etc, in all districts of Karnataka.  

 

The training on CRZ is being organized in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts, in order to curb the pollution along the coastal Karnataka, added Vinayakumar.

 

The Institute has taken 2 key issues in 2013 -14 that includes training on solid waste management, to conserve the environment in abattoirs in CRZ.

 

The training chief B Basavaraju welcomed the gathering.
