Mangalore: Jana Jagruti Samiti Protests to curb Rising Incidents of Cattle-lifting

Mangalore, 20 August, 2013 : Jana Jagruiti Samiti staged a protest in front of DC office here on Monday August 19, urging the state authorities to pass effective cattle protection law, as the incidents of cattle-lifting is increasing across Dakshina Kannada (DK) district.
Addressing the protesters, the Samiti convener Kateel Dinesh Pai said that there has been an increase in cattle related crime in the district and said cattle is being stolen systematically for slaughter and sale of meat. He also alleged that the police are not putting concerted effort to nab the cattle-lifters who inhumanely bundle them in SUVs.
The protestors demanded compensation of Rs 50,000 each to those whose cows were forcibly taken away and also to provide gun licenses to the dairy farmers who depend on milking the cows for their sustenance. Besides, they also urged for setting up of a cattle protection squad to put an end to cattle-lifting.
Vidyadhar Hegde, Jaya Gowda, Sharan Pumpwell, Manjunath, Kishore Kumar, Jagadish Shenava and others were present.
