Mangalore, 21 July 2010: Continuing their demolition drive against illegal constructions, officials of the Mangalore City Corporation on Wednesday, July 21, mowed down a petty shop and illegally extended parts of two other separate buildings in the city. The petty shop located at Kankanady, which was illegally constructed without getting due license, was razed to ground by a bulldozer early in the morning. An illegally extended portion of the Gasco shop near Divya Deepa Arcade at Bendoor, and an extended portion of the interlock in front of the Juice Junction near Jyothi were also razed by the same bulldozer.
The MCC authorities told media that the owners of the shops, where the demolition took place had been given several notices in the past but they kept ignoring them. “We also had informed them a day earlier that our bulldozer will come to demolish the unauthorised portion”, an official said on condition of anonymity, adding that the demolished constructions were a gross violation of building laws and the Corporation had no other option but to demolish it. However the owners of the shops have complained that they did not receive any official notice from MCC.

"However the owners of the shops have complained that they did not receive any official notice from MCC." Did they give notice to MCC and obtained its permission before constructing the illegal structure? MCC should also collect fine from these shop for using public property for carrying out their business. |
