Moodubelle, 5 July 2010: A mysterious fire destroyed the shop of Varadaraj Kamath (Raju) ’Kamakshi’ which is situated in front of the main gate of the Moodubelle Church during the night of Sunday, 4th July 2010. The shop has been selling fruits and other general provisions.
According to a report, someone from Mattar noticed thick smoke emanating from the shop at around midnight and immediately informed Raju’s brother, Leeladhar Kamath at his residence next to the Grotto near the Church. Raju’s residence is in Naalku Beedi. On hearing about the mishap Leeladhar rushed to the spot and raised an alarm and collected some people living around the pethe. He also informed his brother Raju who also rushed to the spot.
On opening the shop and dousing the fire inside with water, it was found that two fridges were completely gutted. The other provisions within the shop were also destroyed due to the fire. It is not exactly known what caused the fire. It is suspected that short-circuit might have caused the fire.
